Description of Services:
Back to School Program: The No Diamond Left Behind Program provides school supply gift cards and clothing gift cards to assist families with the cost school-readiness items. Bus Passes: bus passes for individuals to access travel for the purpose of employment and GCCSA continuing education. Case Management: Service Specialists are trained and experienced in making referrals and providing linkage to various services including but not limited to: Legal Services, Homeless Shelters, Drug Treatment, Mental Health Assistance and Health Care. Community Learning Center: educational services that increase basic academic skills of youth and adults. The programs offered are as follows: English as a Second Language Class; Spanish as a Second Language; Adult Basic Education Class; General Education Diploma Class; Money Management Workshops ; Workforce Development Workshop; Entrepreneurship Workshop; Nutrition Workshop; Secondary Education Workshop; Family Literacy Workshop (Seasonal); Homeownership Workshop; Homebuyer Education Seminar; Computer Literacy Class ; The Here and Now Program (for single mothers); and The Tomorrow is Today Program (Re-Entry Program for men recently released from prison). Employment Skills: The Brooks Program provides access to invitation- only job fairs and hiring events for clients. Clients must complete a Workforce Development Class to get access to this service. Food Pantry: The Good Neighbor Program provides emergency food assistance to families and individuals. Furniture: The Furniture Shop Program provides vouchers through the Houston Furniture Bank. Head Start and Early Head Start: GCCSA Head Start and Early Head Start serves children (ages 0-5) and their families in the Southeast Houston Area, East End, Third Ward and Pasadena at 28 Head Start centers and one Early Head Start center. Home Safety: The Home Remedy Program is specifically for seasoned citizens and people with disabilities. GCCSA provides minor installations and home modifications to make homes safer and more accessible to clients. Housing Counseling/Home Assistance Program: The GCCSA Housing Department provides comprehensive housing services including home buying education classes, predatory lending counseling, tenant advocacy, Fair Housing Act outreach and comprehensive housing counseling. Individual Development Account: This program is a savings incentive program that provides a monetary match for the purchasing of assets in the areas of entrepreneurship, home ownership and education. Services include Money Management Training, Business Development Workshops, Tax Preparation and facilitation of small business loan applications. Prescription Vouchers: GCCSA provides vouchers to clients to assist with their prescription needs. Rental/Mortgage/Utility Assistance: The Pay Myself Back Program provides emergency financial assistance to clients facing eviction and utility service. The Care Program is a utility assistance program for Reliant Energy clients only. Clients do not need to have a disconnect notice for this service. The Neighbor to Neighbor Program is a utility assistance program for Direct Energy clients only. Clients do not need to have a disconnect notice for this service. Transportation: The Progressive Movement Program provides transportation vouchers to seniors and people with disabilities. Tax Assistance: Free tax assistance to clients between February 1st and April 15th through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Youth Services: The EYES Program is a youth development program designed to enhance the progressive behaviors of youth in at-risk circumstances. The following services are provided: Math Camp provides math tutoring to students between third grade and twelfth grade; Youth Savings Incentive Program provides a 1:1 match up to $250 for students-the student will have $500 dollars to apply towards a progressive asset; Leadership Academy provides an array of exposure to students including a community service legacy project; and Essay Contest and Spelling Bee provide activities focused on grammatical and literary progression
