Description of Services:
Emergency Basic Needs Emergency services including food, prescriptions (non-narcotic), gasoline vouchers, bus tokens, clothing, financial help with rent/mortgage, natural gas and water bills (not electricity bills), school supplies and holiday food and toys. The appointment line is open Monday-Friday from 9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm until all available appointments have been filled. Appointments are scheduled for the next day. To be eligible for assistance you must reside in zip code 77014, 77032, 77038, 77050, 77060, 77064, 77066, 77068, 77069, 77070, 77073, 77086, 77090, 77373, 77379, 77388, or 77389. Housing Services Distributes funds from government grants to help prevent local residents from becoming homeless, or to help homeless families become stably housed. Special funding available for veterans and families with school-aged children. No assistance is offered over the phone, an appointment and personal interview is required. Children's Clinic Quality medical care for infants and children up to age 18 for families who have Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance or who are self- pay/uninsured. Through a partnership with UT Health Science Center, the clinic provides a full range of services, from preventive care to acute care. Call for more information: (281) 885-4630. Family Violence Center The FVC offers a 24-hour hotline, bilingual outreach, telephone crisis counseling, referrals to emergency shelter, transportation, professional counseling for adults and their children, information and referrals for bettering intervention services, legal referrals and court accompaniment. Call for more information: (281) 885-4673 or 1-888- 750-4673. Food – Joanne Watford Nutrition Center Nutritious groceries for individuals and families. Qualified clients can shop for and select food items, including fresh produce, based on the families nutritional needs. Call for more information: (281) 583- 5600. Interfaith Hospitality Network Shelter and meals for homeless families in transition as well as assistance finding employment and housing. Call for more information: (281) 885-4567. Learning Center ESL classes, GED preparation, reading and writing literacy, job search seminars, financial literacy, legal seminars, and when available, computer classes. Meals on Wheels Program Hot, nutritious meals delivered to homebound seniors and individuals who are homebound because of illness or disability. Call for more information: (281) 885-4623. Senior Services – Fifty Plus Program The Senior Center offers activities such as exercise and dance classes, day trips, bridge and other card games, bingo, craft groups, and many other classes for active seniors.
