Description of Services:
In 1993, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mandated HIV Prevention Community Planning for funded agencies in jurisdictions with the greatest number of new HIV infections each year. The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) implemented community planning locally in1994. Planning bodies like HHPCPG ensure regular community input is gathered to help HDHHS accomplish HIV prevention activities with the highest impact for local communities. The primary task of HHPCPG is to assist HDHHS in the development of a Jurisdictional HIV Plan that is based on scientific evidence and community values. This Plan includes specific, high-priority HIV prevention strategies and interventions targeted to defined populations. HHPCPG assists by analyzing the course of the epidemic in the Houston area, assessing HIV prevention needs, identifying HIV prevention interventions to meet those needs, and developing strategies that are directly responsive to the local epidemic. For more information on meeting times/locations or how to apply for membership on HHPCPG, please contact the Bureau of HIV/STD and Viral Hepatitis Prevention at (832) 393-5010.
